In episode three of our illustrious second season, Skipper-T and The Robot celebrate 1 year since STRLA debuted on iTunes for the enjoyment of the masses. This episode features a recap of some of the artists that have appeared on STRLA over the last year as well as a look at what they’re up to now. Sadly, it’s not much.

Our hosts welcome Venice Beach artist and musician Matt Benware, frontman for The Hard Goodbye, into the studio to celebrate with the gang. Benware talks about his life, music, the influences of songwriting and Charles Manson while playing the with studio animals and enjoying some fantastic Birthday Bacon cooked up by Skipper-T himself! Below is a video highlighting some parts of the Matt Benware interview.

After taking a few months off to let Season One sink in, and decide that we weren’t just being lazy and actually preparing for Season Two, Skip and Robot are back and ready to go! After being tricked during the last episode and being served up a mediocre episode of Star Trek instead of the LFL championship, the mayor of Miami has flown our courageous hosts in for the weekend to watch the LFL Championships and has put them up at the Four Seasons Miami. After a luxurious town car ride (not a limo, kind of disappointing) our hosts checked in to the Presidential Suite at the Four Seasons while the road crew setup Inglewood One Studio. The game was fairly one sided with Los Angeles dominating from the get go.

Upon recording of this episode, Skip and Robot were under the impression that they were watching the league Championships, but in reality they were watching the Western Conference finals between Los Angeles and San Diego. The Lingerie Bowl happened later and featured the Los Angeles Temptation vs. the Chicago Bliss, which the Temptation won 27-14.

In what is the shortest episode to date of our illustrious Podcast, Skip and Robot skip the studio segment as a result of being screwed by the LFL‘s schedule vs. television-air-date discrepancy. Lucky for our hosts, Venice performer and friend of the show Andrew Heilprin a.k.a. Blue Eyed Son, invited the guys to The Stronghold in Venice, CA to hear take in an intimate concert by Andrew and his band. This episode features a candid interview with Andrew covering his band, The Stronghold, Avatar, Willie Nelson’s kid and a host of other topics. Skip and Robot also take a trip to 7-11 in an attempt to finally procure the coveted 25¢ hashbrown, but like the LFL, are rejected in our attempts to make good on former promises. Such is life in the vicious world of Podcasting.

This installment of STRLA (which if you don’t know by know, means Skipper-T and The Robot do Los Angeles) marks the official 10th episode of what is quickly becoming the most important broadcast of our time. Having just recently been handed the wand of truth from the recently de-funked Air America Radio, STRLA has officially becomes the last outlet for reliable news, in the world! We celebrate this event with a look back at the people and moments and people that made the first 10 (actually 11 counting the pilot) episodes of STRLA so special. Episode 10 also features Robot’s best gaffs, a segment put together by Skipper-T highlighting Robot’s inability to perform basic functions such as short term memory conversion. We take a look at some of the more interesting winners of the this year’s Golden Globes and ponder the motives behind a woman claiming to be addicted to abortion. After a STRLA public service announcement and a tribute to dead babies, our host make their way to Venice beach and the area staple Venice Whaler to finally meet up with the ever elusive Anastacia, who prefers to be called Dasha, or maybe it was Tasha . . . that is still an object of debate. While at The Whaler, Skip and Robot get an interview with Paul Chesne, Westside country music mogul and are once again mobbed by the inherent craziness that is the streets of Venice, CA.

This episode features music from recording artist Paul Chesne, drunk Russians, drunk Rappers, homeless teenage lesbians and a wide variety of inappropriate discourse only suitable for the internet. Our gift to you. Happy 10th Episode STRLA fans!

Episode 009 is the first podcast of 2010 and our hosts, Skip and Robot, are excited to be back and raise the bar for 2010. After a brief introduction from Pleasure-P with Haitian Fresh (“No Panties On”), our hosts pay homage to holiday traveling, Gigi’s traffic troubles and the smooth taste of Natural Ice Lager. Our hosts discuss the LFL and how the season is turning out for LA’s Temptation. Skip and Robot count down Los Angeles’ most wanted criminals and offer encouragement to struggling criminals. This episode features a trip to Joxer Daly’s to see The Whiskey Saints play to a packed house. The guys get an interview with the band and grille them about the band’s history, choice of a name and fashion items. The Whiskey Saints played an amazing show and are definitely worth going to see. If you’re a fan of Wilco, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Americana Folk Rock, you’re guaranteed to have a great time with The Whiskey Saints.

Holiday abounds as STRLA takes on Christmas in 2009! Our episode opens with Skip and Robot discussing the modern day atrocity that is Christmas music and they reflect on the Christian tradition of outshining every other religion in the world when it comes to flaunting their holiday. After a brief recap of the previous week’s episode and a shout out to Adrian, the guitar player of American Idiots, our hosts partake in a brief gift exchange before heading out to Good Hurt in Mar Vista to see music legend Mike Watt perform with his band The Secondmen! This is the show’s proudest moment, as we were able to obtain a 90 minute interview from Mike Watt, who has played and recorded with The Minutemen, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Iggy Pop, The Lemonheads and Sonic Youth just to name a few. He is credited with inventing Alternative rock and has had many of the most influential rock albums (such as Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic) dedicated to him in honor of his enormous influence. Despite the fact that he is one of the most in-demand, widely respected musicians in the rock and roll world he is a hell of a good guy and at 52 years old, still rocks like a mother-fucker! He stood out in front of Good Hurt for hours talking with awestruck fans, signing autographs and taking pictures without once ever acting like the huge superstar he is. We are forever thankful and grateful for his grace and good spirit. Mike Watt, you’re everything a rock star should be and you’re welcome back on the show anytime you’d like!

Episode 007 starts out with a lively discussion of our somewhat difficult to understand and nonsensical episode numbering system and how it will plague us through the entire run of the show. We reflect on the given nickname of the show (STRLA), Skip getting Gigi drunk and beating her at tennis and holiday fun including family reunions and some seriously intense ping-pong. Our hosts discuss Munchos, the prize champion of convenience store food and how no matter the temptation, gas station ham sandwiches should be avoided. Episode 007 features our first of what will likely be many apology segments where we do our best to express actual remorse for the many fine people and establishments we have offended with our silly broadcast.
